6.3. UPDATE Lindheim
Re-installation of the new nest pad was planned for this year. It should be supplemented with nesting material and the visible screws should be covered. On Saturday, March 6, 2021, we can only supplement the existing nest with a drainage layer to prevent puddles in the nest and bring new nesting material, as last year. (Hopefully without a subsequent storm).
After leaving the young birds, we must install a new nest pad. At present, it is not possible to insert a mat into a nest using a fire ladder. During the last reconstruction, we approached the tower from the north side, but four weeks ago there was a record flood almost to the chimney. The soil is still completely soaked and not passable. This year we can't go as close to the tower from the courtyard side as last year.
Therefore, a quick replacement of the base is not possible and it would take too long and would jeopardize the process of preparation for stork breeding. Since both storks had already prepared the nest almost for breeding, we did not want to disturb them too much and endanger the offspring. There are also foreign storks constantly in the vicinity of the nest, which can drive away both nest owners with the help of riots.
You have contributed to the new nest several times, thank you for that. So now we can plan a bigger recovery campaign than was originally planned. We rent a very large work platform for the whole day and replace the nest pad, repair the frost damage to the upper chimney and protect it from moisture.
In addition, the nest pad on the roof of the neighboring house is falling into disrepair. We will also completely restore this nest. We hope you will support this decision, now we have decided what is best for the birds. The complete renovation of both nests will then take place very intensively outside the breeding season.
