Gorillas - forest corridor, GRACE Center, Kasuga
Gorillas - description
The Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Training Center (or GRACE) is located near Tayna Nature Reserve in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their mission is to care for the rescued Eastern (Grauer) gorillas and to support the conservation of wild gorillas and their environment through cooperation with the Congolese communities. GRACE takes care of orphaned gorillas in order to bring them back to nature. The organization also works with local communities to promote forest protection and sustainable livelihoods and to promote peaceful coexistence between people and gorillas.
The corridor connects the night building and the DRC GRACE forest habitat, and viewers in the area will see eastern gorillas most often as they come and go from the forest. Watch gorillas pass through, graze on vegetation, and maybe even make a night's sleep. Gorillas can choose where to sleep, and often choose to sleep inside their night building, but sometimes sleep outside. Also, because they eat so much fibrous vegetation, gorillas spend a lot of time relaxing and digesting. Expect to see some spectacularly lazy afternoon nap!
