Mississippi River Flyway offers unparalleled views of migratory birds and wildlife.
Raptor Resource Project established a new bird camera on Driftless Island in the Mississippi River area. Situated in the wildlife national park on Lake Onalaska, the camera offers a unique view of migratory birds and river wilderness, including the Bald Eagle, American White Pelicans, Canadian Cranes, Caspian Terns, Cormorants and many ducks, seagulls and other waterfowl. More than 325 bird species annually undertakes a sightseeing tour of the Mississippi, from its nesting sites in Canada and the northern United States to wintering grounds along the Gulf of Mexico and Central and South America, and many of them are seen on this camera.
The camera project was completed with the help of the Brice Prairie Conservation Association, Mississippi River Wildlife Park, Riverland Energy Co-Op and Explore.org. Volunteers helped ferries delivering to and from the island, built two donated masts and installed solar panels, power, and a set of cameras and radios. From the beginning to the end the project lasted a total of eight long days.
