Orlovec River webcam from Hog Island
Osprey - description
Welcome to the Rachel and Stevo nest on the Hog Island
near the coastal state of Maine, USA.
The Orlovec River is a medium-sized bird from the orbital family. It achieves a length of 55-58 centimeters. The wingspan is 145-170 centimeters. Orlovec lives predominantly in the vicinity of the sea coast, the lakes and larger rivers. Its food consists of 99% of fish that fish on the water surface. Nest orbits often occupy other birds of prey that are placed on the highest trees. Both parents, but above all the females, sit on the eggs. The male feeds on the nest. Orlovci sits on eggs 35 to 38 days. Young orbits from the nest fly out at the age of 50 to 60 days.

1.5 UPDATES Audubon Osprey Nest
Hi, Hog Island Osprey Friends!
I think we all have to deal with Rachel not coming back. Migration is difficult for every bird, healthy or not, there are many obstacles during the long journey. We have no way of knowing what happened to her. Personally, I like the idea that she could end up in a rehabilitation facility…
Keep in mind that she is already about 13 to 14 years old, which is above the average life of eagles living for about 9-11 years, as Alan Poole told us. In addition, eagle's nests lose an average of at least one member every 5 years. Rachel and Steve have been together twice as long! Let us remember this blessed life they had together and that we could share with them. Think of all the beautiful moments and their wonderful descendants: Sky, Ollie, Sibley, Mabel, Tory, Poole, Pan, Pia, Big, Little, Eric, Bierre, Spirit, Aspen, Sierra, Bailey, River, Spring, Summer, Halley, and Dion. Not everyone did it, but they all gave us so much joy except grief. Like Rachel.
Today is day 17 after the first attempt to mate Steve and the new female Lady. Will we see the eggs soon? Well, this is a completely new relationship with a young eagle, it cannot be compared to the established relationship between R and S. Usually, the eggs are due within 2 to 3 weeks after the first attempt at mating. Also keep in mind that Lady's reproductive organs may not be fully developed / synchronized due to their young age. If it has eggs, it may not be viable or not developed properly.
14.4 - 19:40 CET male Sreve with a foreign female on the nest! We're still waiting for Rachel to arrive!
12.4 Male Steve has returned to the area!
3.8. 13: 10 The young eagle Halley flew out of the nest!
The Osprey cub just dared to fly to his parent's branch for the first time, great.
1.8. Halley is practicing, he will fly away soon
31.7. 11:37 CET Steve brought a live fish, which flapped on the nest before Rachel took it over, occasionally feeding the young…. Today Halley is 54 days old. The young usually complete their first flight between 55 and 60 days of age. Halley diligently traces…

Please read the words of the CEO about the situation at Rachel and Steve's nest
Dear friends of Osprey:
The sad loss of the Dion eagle is again a reminder of the strength and speed of the Virginia eagle owl. I had hoped that our mannequin deterrence plan would give chickens a chance to survive, but it is likely that owls will get used to the presence of mannequins, although we have regularly moved them and changed their costumes for the last three weeks since their first deployment on July 2. To add more deterrence around the nest, we added a sound element in the evening. If someone listens carefully, it is possible to hear a recording of a previous interview with Explore.org with dr. Rob Bierregaard about eagles. This is a repetitive cycle and will remain on until dawn. Adding audio recordings of human voices near the nest doesn't bother Rachel and Steve because they're used to hearing voices.
We hope that adding a recorded voice combined with a family of mannequins and lighting will help repel the owls. This adaptive management approach is a new and previously untested way to prevent owl attacks, so we don't know the outcome, but we feel it's important to try to provide a varied deterrence plan. Our staff are committed to doing what they can to protect eagles without harming owls or other predators in Hog Island Nature Reserve.
Our goal remains to provide a window into the life of eagles. Predation is part of the experience of eagles. Remember that eagles have a long lifespan and many opportunities to raise chickens. The pair have bred eleven chickens since Explore.org began tracking the nest in 2012. The predation we see in this nest on Hog Island undoubtedly often occurs along the coast of Maine, where most eagles nest in neighbors' trees. such as owls or eagles. Rachel's behavior when patrolling the nest at night or in the nest is proof that owls and eagles have a long history in common.
All the best,
Stephen Kress

Do you remember the words of Dr. B.?
Nature is not cruel. Being cruel means intentionally harming someone or harming someone. Nature is ruthless, harsh and often accidental, but it is not cruel.
Stay strong, Rachel, Steve and Halley!
26.7. Here is the video of the eagle owl attack and I will add an update.

25.7. But not!! At 08:05 CET - 2:02 am EDT, a barn owl took one chick out of the nest!
Rachel was on the patrolling branch, but there was nothing she could do. It happened too fast.
It is not yet certain which cub was taken - it seems that it could have been Dion.
Amazing Hog Island personnel have taken all the necessary precautions - 3 mannequins under the nest, headlights - in vain, attacks repeat like last year and last year.
… Another "plague blow" for young eagles this year ..the young of these amazing birds are not easy!
Here it is Jeníček every year… ..the previous year one cub was taken by a bald eagle, the second by night was made by three cubs.
19.7. promised entry and videos - I managed to find something…

Thanks for the info, the injury is improving, so hopefully it will be good. The male can do it, he's a pimp! 🙂
No, Rachel was said to have brought the first caught fish into the nest since the injury, so it will be good.
19.7. 12: 05 CET Steve brings the fish, Rachel descends from the patrolling branch to the nest, takes over the fish, which he immediately leaves to the young.
I would say that the female has a very seriously injured one leg. Undoubtedly he can not hunt and has great feeding problems. All food supply, therefore, lies on the male. Fortunately, there are only two chicks! It will be interesting to follow further developments.
Thanks for the warning, I didn't notice, I will try to find information and make a note.
