Bald Eagle's Nest - Webcam Big Bear
Eagle's Nest Big Bear - description
The non-profit organization Institute for Wildlife Studies installed the camera in the Bear Valley a few years ago.
They kept the camera and transmission without the eagles using this nest.
In the autumn of 2017, a young, inexperienced eagle couple began to appear here.
In 2017, Jackie and Mr. B took over the nest. In 2017, Jackie and Mr. B mated, but Jackie did not lay eggs. Given that she was only 5 years old (determined by her feather color pattern), she may have been too young.
But in 2018 Jackie laid eggs that hatched and were named Stormy and BBB. The BBB did not survive a severe 24-hour rainstorm and subsequent freezing temperatures. Stormy survived. When Stormy was almost 8 weeks old, he was ringed on each ankle. Stormy's identification ring is purple with the number JR1.
In 2019 the female laid two eggs, survived one chick named Simba. Simby identification ring is blue ZR1.
Nesting 2020
This year the female Jackie has laid two eggs. The first egg was laid on 8.11, the second three days later on 11.1. Expected hatching is around Valentine's Day 14.2
The Big Bear Lake is a reservoir
in San Bernardino Mountains, San Bernardino County,
in the state of California, USA.
The lake was named after the grizzly bears that were together
with indigenous peoples of the region.
It belongs to the Santa Ana River Basin. The surrounding area is a popular holiday destination.

25.1.2020 Přenos naskočil v 8,06 – inkubuje Jackie. Shadow přiletěl střídat až ve 13,19 – Jackie mu vynadala 🙂 a odletěla. Vrátila se v 15,22 hod. Shadow má volno.
21-01-2020 Při střídání v inkubaci v 11,51 a v 15,16 krásné „zobákování“ 🙂
Při každém dnešním střídání donesena podestýlka – hnízdo už vypadá o trošku líp.
20.1. 10:05 Shadow arrives with a branch, picks up another branch on the nest and places Jackie carefully on her back
V 10,08 Shadow s prázdnou odletěl, Jackie rybu fofrem snědla a v 10,15 už zase inkubovala. Šikovná holka 🙂
17-1-2020 v 8,45 přinesl Shadow pěknou rybu. Nejprve ji „hodil“ Jackie na záda a začal konzumovat – Jackie si během chvilky rybu převzala, snědla, Shadow odletěl a Jackie znovu usedla na hnízdo.
Greetings Leona, Shadow is pretty goofy as he threw the Jackie fish on his back and calmly started to weld there. Jackie kept it long enough. They are our sweethearts, I love watching them. I hope that nature will not prepare any dramatic situation on this nest again this year and everything will turn out well
I also greet you, Ivo, when I read what has happened on this nest, so I am afraid to watch it after hatching eagles. I saw ringing last year. Then I found out what happened and I wasn't watching the broadcast anymore. Only when I found out that Simba was already big, did I finally get lucky to see him fly out of the nest.
Jackie had scales on her back for a while 🙂.
I do not blame you at all, I also fear what will happen after hatching eagles. The worst here is the fickle weather, when a snowstorm or rain comes suddenly and it freezes at night. Last year, when one of the eagles died, I could not watch this nest for a long time.
16.1. 15:39 Shadow brings the rest of some bird. Jackie swears, but after a while takes food. In moments, it starts to blow enough. Perhaps both eagles will survive this night in health, and hopefully they will keep the eggs from getting cold.
16-1-2020 It appears that every day between 5 am and 6 am, the transmission is interrupted and resumes around 7,45.
Today, after resuming the transmission, Jackie was sitting on the nest. At 10,33 he took over the Shadow service, but the female did not want much from the nest.
She came back at 13,28 and remcal Shadow pro for a change.
This is an insufficiently charged battery. Tomorrow it will probably be worse with the transmission, at night there is snow.
14-1-20 Jackie často a někdy na dost dlouho přenechává „službu“ Shadowovi 🙂 – ráno min. 3 hodiny, po naběhnutí přenosu seděl Shadow, Jackie přiletěla v 11,19 hod.
14.1. 01:18 Shadow incubates, Jackie brought grass to the nest, at 01:21:50 after a moment of persuasion, Shadow rises and deserts to incubate Jackie.
I also saw the persuasion 🙂
Young eagle on territory.
– Trish

Amazing shots of eagles !!! To my delight, enough pictures from the lake. Díky 🙂

Hello Mrs. Petro,
thanks for your work! It is a good tool for us laymen and especially the opportunity to get to know the history of eagle nesting in this area.
The region is really unique, especially with regard to the altitude.
Thanks to the air maps on Seznam, we can get to know Jackie and Shadow's home almost in detail.
Thanks and have a nice day 🙂 L.
Hello Mrs. Leona, you are welcome 🙂 Some nests can be traced back to history, but there are nests where unfortunately nothing is found.
I also wish a nice rest of the day 🙂
Thanks Petra, so he will have valentines. What scares me is what is in the article about the death of chickens in the nest. So the storms, with the subsequent frosts, are common in BB, and there is a risk that the situation from last year and last year will repeat itself
12.1 07:44 jumped transmission Shadow on nest incubates
12.1.20 A few minutes after 17pm on 11.1.2020 Jackie has laid second egg !!!
Hello Mrs. Leono, that's great, thanks. I watched the nest before and it seemed to me that Shadow had been in the nest for a long time, so I thought Jackie still had time
Také zdravím, ona Jackie byla odpoledne asi hodinu a půl pryč, vrátila se někdy před třetí hodinou a pak už seděla. Asi v 17,02 začala a během chviličky bylo vajíčko vedle „kolegy“ 🙂
Have a nice Sunday 🙂
11.1. 07:40 jumped transmission!
11.1. Today is the time for the second egg!
11.1. Update Friends of Big Bear Valley and Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam There are many comments and questions about how to recognize Jackie and Shadow separately. Being younger than Jackie, he still has a little black on his white tail feathers. Jackie's tail is completely white. Bald eagle takes about 5 years to get adult feathers. They begin with brown feathers and over time adult white heads and tail feathers come, while the white stripes on the chest and under the wings are replaced by brown feathers. There are also changes in eye color (starting in brown, turning pale yellow in about 3 years) and... read more
In 2016, BB female Star K83 from the Two Harbors nest on Catalina Island hatched in 2008 to see her nest.

Díky Petro, Jackie na těch fotkách ještě nemá vybarvené peří. Zřejmě bude stejně stará, nebo mladší, než Shadow vloni…
Ivo is welcome, Jackie is 4 years old. It also hatched at Lake BB in 2012. (I am preparing an article on this topic, I am gathering various information, I would like to publish it on Monday).
10.1. at 13,07 he leaves Shadow and immediately arrives Jackie and sits on an egg.
10.1. 11:15 Shadow takes the incubation
10.1.2020 Camera does not drive again 🙁
Už je to ok – v 7,40 naskočila.
10.1. So in January we will be waiting for the second egg on BB, next week should lay River on the nest Dale Hollow, late January owl Julie, possibly a female in Minnesota. At the beginning of February, eggs are waiting for us in the nests of the Normandy Islands, Decorah and other nests of baldheads, plus eagles in Florida. I almost forgot about the eagles in Hungary, but there is no camera. Slowly it starts.
Hello Petra, thanks for the info. I'm really looking forward to the plover on all the nests. I hope that this year's nesting season will be better than last year and will not be so dramatic.
Something about eggs and cold weather.

Díky ! Už nebudu plašit, když se některá z našich orlích samic někde zdrží – holky vědí, co si mohou dovolit 🙂 .
9-1-2020 From 15,15 to 15,50 again egg uncovered, Jackie gone.
It's okay, delaying incubation, it will still lay another egg.
9.1. 12:43:52 Shadow brings fish to the female
9.1. 09:07:18 Shadow saw the egg for the first time, but did not incubate, just turned it over and covered at 9:24 to let Jackie incubate
9.1. 07:47 transmission jumped, 08:14:18 Jackie gets up and leaves the nest
09:34:30 Jackie is nearby and vocalizes
Jackie left the egg uncovered and moved away for almost 45 minutes 🙁.
Shadow, instead of wearing bedding, brings sticks. They probably know what to do :-).
But they are a beautiful couple 🙂
At 08:46 you could hear both near the nest, probably mating. Then shadow wore sticks on the nest.
8.1.2020 17:39 is there, we have the first egg !!!!!!!!!! Jackie apparently took it at 17:33
Thanks for the warning Ivo 🙂

Greetings Ivo, we probably will not see much, the camera is stuck again, it will probably need to replace the battery, it does not last much and it is not solar panels sunk, or there is no frost, so it should be recharged during the day.
So everything starts again :-). Especially to avoid big frosts and it was still in the beak. Good luck, eagles!
Today is snowing, High temperature -1 ° C. At night clear. The lowest temperature -7 ° C. https://meteobox.cz/kalifornie-usa/big-bear-lake/
8.1.2020 17:33 I think Jackie endures !!!!!!
8.1. 2020 17:11 Jackie sits on the nest for a long time, then adjusts the bedding. 17:12 Shadow arrives and immediately puts his beak to the work. There were also beaking and milling. Jackie doesn't want to be pushed out of the nesting bowl. 17.24 it's almost dark, but Jackie is still in the nest
8-1-2020 Orli na hnízdě 14,55 – 15,24.
