Deer enclosure - description
Deer run online camera
Online camera from the forest zoo in Malá Chuchle. If you visit the zoo in person, you can see foxes, badgers, fallow deer, lynx and more. An online camera captures a deer enclosure. The red deer is a large even-toed ungulate from the deer family. It occurs in large areas of Europe, the Caucasus, Asia Minor, Central and Central Asia, and in isolation between Morocco and Tunisia. Red deer are among the largest members of their family. Males grow 175 - 230 cm and their weight is between 160 - 240 kg. Females are much smaller, grow to 160 - 210 cm and weigh between 120 - 170 kg. The tail measures 12 - 19 mm and reaches a height of 120 to 150 cm at the withers. However, the size and weight are very variable and visibly differ between subspecies.
The most typical feature for male deer are antlers. Deer antlers shed each year, usually at the end of winter. In the spring, when new antlers grow for deer, they are covered with a fine protective velvet layer, called a figure, which nourishes the growing antler and is later hammered against the trees. The antlers are made of bone, which can grow by an average of 2,5 cm per day. Red deer is a widespread and in many countries also abundant species of even-toed ungulates. It inhabits practically the whole of Europe. It inhabits the central and western part of Asia and also extends to Asia Minor. Deer is a typical inhabitant of ancient forests with occasional meadows and belts of shrubs.
